Forge World Releases New Castellax Battle-automata with Darkfire Cannon

0
0

More Mechanicum goodness from Forge World!

Forge World has released another Mechanicum bad ass!  The Machine God is pleased!
Three times the height of a man and formidably powerful, the Castellax class Battle-automata is a mainstay of the Legio Cybernetica and many Mechanicum armies. Capable of wielding an array of armaments, in addition to its powerful close combat weapons and boltguns, it can also be equipped with heavier and exotic ranged weaponry.

In battle, the Castellax is animated by an aggressive machine spirit, its armoured endoskeleton making it near impervious during its assault. It is at its most deadly, however, when paired with the arcane and lethal darkfire cannon. Unleashing screaming beams of pure darkness, armour, flesh and stone boil away with their touch, and even the most heavily armoured vehicles can be torn apart by their hellish un-light.

The Mechanicum Castellax Battle-automata with Darkfire Cannon is a complete multi-part resin kit and includes a choice of bolters or flamers as secondary weapons.

The Mechanicum Castellax Battle-automata with Darkfire Cannonis £37 or $56.

New Forge World Mechanicum, Alpha Legion, Iron Warriors

From Forge World:

Thallax are heavily augmented cyborg shock-troops created by completely replacing the major organs, nervous system and cerebrum of a human with armoured mechanical systems powered by an internal reactor core. This endows them with strength and fortitude greater even than that of a Space Marine, but at a terrible cost to those forced to endure this process.

Deployed as Thallax Cohorts by their Mechanicum overseers, these cold, calculating killing machines witness the devastation they unleash against human and alien alike as a raging storm of electromagnetic turmoil, blood-heat and seismic percussion. When faced with far more powerful foes, the Thallax Cohort’s standard lightning guns can be replaced with more specialised and volatile weaponry such as the phased plasma-fusil or the arcane irad-cleanser.

Thallax Cohorts may be taken as part of a Mechanicum or Legiones Astartes army in Horus Heresy games. Their rules can be found in The Horus Heresy Book 3 – Extermination.

The Thallax Cohort with Phased Plasma-fusil and Thallax Cohort with Irad-cleanser are both complete multi-part resin kits. Each kit includes three models, two armed with lightning guns and one with a phased plasma-fusil or irad-cleanser. These kits are available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 23rd January.

"A single beast must suffer the mastership of many men until ready to shed its last vorpal coils."

Forge World Releases New Dreadnought!

deredeo-bnr-sm

Forge World has released a new Space Marine Dread!

From Forge World:

The Deredeo pattern dreadnought is a dedicated heavy support frame, though it shares many core components and systems with the more general assault-based Contemptor class. Initially deployed in limited numbers to each of the Legions due to difficulties in its manufacture, its durability and firepower saw demand for the Deredeo pattern dramatically increase after the outbreak of the Horus Heresy.

One of the primary weapon systems the Deredeo can mount is the twin-linked Anvilus autocannon battery, a fearsome development of the existing autocannon pattern that can engage and destroy armoured targets with a punishing salvo of fire. The carapace of the Deredeo can also mount additional weapons and support systems, including heavy bolters or heavy flamers for close-in defence as well as the advanced Aiolos missile launcher which, with its sophisticated targetting system, can track targets independantly of the primary weapons system and regardless of intervening terrain.

The Deredeo Pattern Dreadnought is a multi-part resin kit which includes the sarcophagus-mounted heavy bolters or heavy flamer options and an 80mm plastic base. The Anvilus autocannon battery and Aiolos missile launcher are multi-part resin kits which are sold separately. All are available to pre-order now and will be despatched from Friday January 30th. The Aiolos missile launcher shown in the painted images is a pre-production model.  Experimental rules using the Deredeo Pattern Dreadnought in games of Warhammer 40,000 and the Horus Heresy can be found here.

Forge World Releases Sevatar, IMperial Fists Command

0
0

New Horus Heresy Models are out!

From Forge World:

SEVATAR, FIRST CAPTAIN OF THE NIGHT LORDS

Arrogant, ruthless and utterly lethal in all aspects of close combat, Sevatar, First Captain of the Night Lords, is a supreme warrior. Before the dark times of the Horus Heresy, his talents garnered him respect throughout the Legiones Astartes, but his murderous will and litany of crimes kindled his reputation for dishonour even before he was the first Traitor to declare ‘Death to the false Emperor’.

Dangerous and fearsomely violent, Sevatar is a master of close assault, tearing through Loyalist Space Marines and their allies with his nostraman chainglaive. His skill, coupled with nascent but long repressed psychic powers, makes his strikes and parries uncannily precise, blocking the blows of his opponent with ease and expertly evading their defences to deliver the killing blow.

The latest addition to Forge World's Horus Heresy Character Series, this highly detailed model depicts Sevatar, First Captain of the Night Lords, his armour embellished with trophies of uncounted victories, many the mortal remains of his foes. The scenic base provided with this kit depicts a slain Space Marine at Sevatar’s feet, and also provided is the option of modelling Sevatar with a bare head or a leering, skull-faced helmet.

Sevatar, First Captain of the Night Lords can be fielded in Night Lords Legion armies in Horus Heresy games. His rules can be found in The Horus Heresy Book Two – Massacre and The Horus Heresy – Isstvan Campaign Legions.

This is a complete resin kit. It is available to pre-order now and will be despatched from Friday 6th February.

Sevatar is £31 or $48.  You can get him here.

Imperial Fists Command

The commanders of the VIIth Legion are among the most stoic and skilled of the Legiones Astartes, engendering the highest levels of loyalty and discipline within their troops. Having survived countless ferocious battles against the enemies of Mankind, each is an expert on battlefield tactics and an accomplished warrior in their own right.

The Imperial Fists Legion Command set is a complete multi-part resin kit comprising two models: one is armed with a power sword and a bolt pistol, the other is equipped with a Legion standard and a power maul. Both wear modified Mk IV armour featuring the iconography of the Imperial Fists Legion. These models can be used to represent a variety of different roles in the Legion Astartes Crusade Army list from The Horus Heresy Book One  ̶  Betrayal, from Centurions to Veteran Sergeants.

This is a complete resin kit. It is available to pre-order now and will be despatched from Friday 6th February.

The Imperial Fist Command is £26 or $40.  You can get them here.

Tallarn Executioner Re-Released

0
0

The Black Library has re-released Tallarn: Executioner.

Previously released as a limited edition hardcover, it now gets a regular release as previous limited editions have.

From The Black Library:

As one of the many staging grounds for the forces serving in the Great Crusade, the verdant world of Tallarn has long served as a transfer point for the personnel and war machines of the Imperial Army. Now, destroyed by a deadly virus-bomb attack launched by the battered Iron Warriors fleet, the entire world is reduced to a toxic wasteland where the survivors must fight to defend what little remains of their home. The remnants of the once mighty Jurnian 701st armoured regiment emerge from their underground shelters, and the opening movements of the Battle of Tallarn begin... even as more clandestine powers seek to manipulate events on both sides of the conflict.

This novella tells the story of the opening of what will become the largest tank battle in Imperial history. This story includes a poignantly tragic glimpse at the paradise world of Tallarn, before the blow that turned the planet into a apocalyptic wasteland, and the grim conditions the survivors are faced with in the aftermath.

You can buy it here.

Horus Heresy Weekender Seminar # 1 - Conquest

Seminar # 1 - Book 4: Conquest

Tony Contrell (Master of Ceremonies and Forge World leader) introduced Alan Bligh and Andy Hoare who conducted the seminar.

The Master Timeline:

The Horus Heresy Book Four: Conquest

The Battles are:

Battle of the Cyclops Cluster
Defence of Agathon
Siege of Mezoa
Conquest of Manachea

The armies involved are:

Sons of Horus
Death Guard
Loyalist Remnants
Mechanicum
Dark Mechanicum
Solar Auxilia
Knights
Titans

Horus plans didn't go as well as planned.  He hoped to strike Terra before anyone knew about his treachery.  So now he has to fight more battles that

The Dark Compliance, which is Horus taking back compliant worlds to create an industrial base.

Solar Auxilia

The Solar Auxilia is to the Imperial Guard as the Codex chapters are to Space Marines.

Elite humans, well equipped that fight alongside the expeditionary fleets.  Their leaders are great heroes and nobles. (And Forge World is making models of these guys).

The Solar Auxilia are not a defensive force like the Imperial Guard.  They are meant to lead and explore, like scouts or rangers.

Knights

Define your pilot first, then equip him based on the Knights role.

Some of these Knight houses are brand new to the Imperium.  Many of these houses were fighting for centuries during the Age of Strife and have very different strategies.

Split Forces

All of the Imperiums armed forces were faced with the choice of staying loyal or turning traitor.  This meant some armed forces went entirely loyalist, while some went traitor.  But sometimes this choice split the legions/houses/forces so part went traitor and some stayed loyal. You can also have forces that were in another part of the galaxy and then show up to find their forces have turned traitor and they are faced with a choice.

You will start to see sub-forces pop up which are not what you might expect.

32mm Bases

Forge World will move this way, but no rush and it doesn't mean anyone has to change their current models.  Tony was very low key about this.  Don't worry, be happy.

This is the biggest news of the event so far!  Not as big as the Epic models, but cool none the less.

Seminar # 2 is all about the Solar Auxilia and the Mechanicum.

Forge World Re-releases Siege of Vraks

0
0

Forge World has Re-Released the Siege of Vraks, but this time in one volume.

The new book takes into account 7th edition and having seen it at the Horus Heresy Weekender, I can tell you it is pretty slick.

From Forge World:

For eighteen years, the armoury world of Vraks has been subjected to a savage and bitter war, the armies of the Imperium and forces of Chaos ceaselessly fighting each other for control of this once loyal stronghold of the Imperium. Even with the combined might of five Space Marine Chapters, twenty-two Imperial Titans and the near-unending ranks of men and war machines of the Death Korps of Krieg, the outcome is far from certain, for the disciples of Chaos are without number, their vast hordes not only bolstered by vile Daemon Engines from the Warp, but also by an ever-increasing number of warbands of the fearsome Chaos Space Marines.

Imperial Armour – The Siege of Vraks gathers together and presents afresh the story of this monumental conflict, previously published in Imperial Armour Volumes Five, Six and Seven. As well as extensive background information on the siege and the forces engaged in it, such as the Red Scorpions Space Marines Chapter, the Grey Knights and the World Eaters Chaos Space Marines, this 288-page, full colour hardback book contains updated rules and army lists for the Death Korps of Krieg and the Renegades of Vraks. Also included are the heraldry and iconography of the forces deployed to Vraks and rules for the lords and heroes of each faction, including Inquisitor-Lord Hector Rex and the vile Mamon, Daemon Prince of Nurgle.

In order to use this book, you will need the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook. This book is available to pre-order today for delivery from Friday 13th February.

You can get yours on the Forge World website.  £57 or $87.

The Black has released a new anthology, Blades of the Traitor.

From The Black Library:

The Story

Across the war-torn galaxy, those sworn to Horus’s cause shake the Imperium to its very foundations. Before the traitors’ relentless onslaught, the wisdom of ages past is lost and forgotten, daemons hide amongst the common people and the warp’s corrupting influence can be seen in almost every facet of the Heresy. For those who would become champions of the new order, there can surely be no redemption – only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods...

Read it because

Blades of the Traitor brings you five epic, action-packed tales that drive the Horus Heresy forward. Discover what the Warmaster’s allies are up to as they prepare to march on Terra: sacrifices in the bowels of Molech’s Enlightenment, Legion Navigators delving through the very Eye of Terror and horrific experiments in dark, secret labs.

Cypher's Identity Revelaed?

0
0

Do we have a clue now who Cypher really is?

This is a reprint of a blog from Leicester All Scars, a gaming blog.  It is really a fantastic piece and I hope you will all enjoy it as much as I did.

PictureMy kit based Cypher.
Before I explore that point in greater detail, it is worth noting that the Prologue at the beginning of Descent of Angels is Cypher referring to himself before the Heresy. After that Zahariel is the protagonist for both Dark Angel Horus Heresy novels (and one audio book where the then-current Cypher flees from Caliban's ancient terror). Throughout Zahariel is constantly contrasted and often pitted against his grimdark Legion and Chaos.
It is also worth noting that Zahariel is one of three characters in the Horus Heresy confirmed to have both contact with and assistance from the Watchers in the Dark (the others being Primarch Lion El'Johnson & Captain Garviel Loken of the Luna Wolves). Due to the aid of the Watchers in the Dark, Zahariel's power-set accounts for Cypher's tabletop rules, such as his ability to slow time Matrix-style (BS:10, I:8) and his ability to phase through objects (so can escape from pretty much anywhere you lock him up).

Of course
Zahariel is a Librarian and Cypher's tabletop rules do not have the Pysker rule. However if we view Cypher like the Eldar who are all pyschic, the Pysker rule only applies to those Eldar who use the warp to cast spells. Also the Watchers in the Dark have demonstrated the same powers as Cypher when breaking Loken out of jail.

Picture
In the Wilds, Zahariel's apotheosis into Cypher was forseen by the Wachers in the Dark. Even though they warned him to turn back, Zaharial's latent psychic powers manifested fighting the Calibanite Lion, altering his time perception to the point where he could see through the animal's defenses and find an opening. Finally, Zahariel killed it using a secondary ability which allowed him to 'phase' his arm and pistol inside its chest.
Zahariel achievements are an echo of the Lion, but more potent because he is not a Primarch. He also owned his own Lion Sword, a gift from the Lion and a reminder from him that they both killed a Calibanite Lion.

An interesting point pulled from the novels
Legion and Betrayer, is that a person brought back from the dead becomes a perpetual (John Grammaticus by The Cabal, Selene by Erebus), that could account for his longevity for ten thousand years. Zahariel's refusal to divulge the name of a daemon, Caliban's ancient terror to Luther is an example of Cypher future dealings with Chaos.

There is a picture of Zahariel and his cousin Nemiel in the hardback edition of "Fallen Angels" by Mike Lee. Zahariel looks like 40k Cypher and has the same pattern of armour. Though this is not entirely conclusive surely the other evidence shows that Librarian Zahariel is Cypher?
Knowing Games Workshop there in fact may NOT be an identity for Cypher after all, keeping his origins shrouded so they can use him as a plot device like in our recent campaign. Who ever Cypher is, I for one cannot wait to learn Zahariel's fate.

Thanks to Gary Walker from Leicester All Scars!
