Roboute Guilliman is Back in 40K!

Roboute Guilliman is back in the 40K universe and he is a BEAST!

While we of course focus on 30K, it is cool to see what Roboute is doing 10,000 years later

Stat wise, he’s WS 9, and has straight 6’s across the board. His Leadership is 10 and he’s rocking a 2+ save (more on that below). He’s also an Monstrous Creature (Character) and has all those special rules on top of everything else! Watching the stream we also know he’s got Feel No Pain, Eternal Warrior and a bunch of other special rules, too!

Lord Commander of the Imperium: Friendly Units from the Armies of the Imperium re-roll failed Morale checks and Fear and Pinning test while Guilliman is on the battlefield.

Primarch of the XIII Legion: You cn choose to enact the Devastator, Assault and Tactical Doctrines (see Codex: Space Marines) once each per game (in addition to any you can already use). When one of these Combat Doctrines is enacted, all Ultramarines models in your army are affected.

Unyielding Will: Roboute Guilliman’s Leadership is not subject to negative modifiers of any kind and he may re-roll Deny the Witch tests.

Warlord Trait:

Absolute Mastery: Roboute Guilliman has all of the Command Traits from Warhammer 40,000: The Rules.

Before we get to his armor, let’s talk about his weapon. He wields both The Emperor’s Sword and The Hand of Dominion. These are combined to form one profile – Strength 10, AP 1 and they have the following special rules: Melee, Armourbane, Concussion, Soul Blaze, Touch of the Emeror, Whirling Flame. Some of it was cut off but watching the stream we learned the following:

Touch of the Emperor: Any attacks with this weapon (that roll a 6 to hit) are resolved at Strength D rather than 10.

Whirling Flame: This rule is pretty long, but basically Guilliman can sacrifice his regular 6 attacks to a swing at every enemy unit with models within 1″ of him. He gets a number off attacks on those units equal to the number of models they have within 1″ of him.

The Hand of Dominion has a built in ranged weapon as well:

Range 24″ Strength 6 Ap 2 and is Assault 3, Rending. He’s basically got the best heavy bolter ever created under his arm!

Now, on to the Armour of Fate:

The Armour of Fate confers a 3+ invulnerable save. In addition, if Roboute Guilliman is slain, place a marker at the spot at which he was slain. At the beginning of your next turn, roll a dice. On a 4 or more Guilliman is restored by his armour – place him as close as possible to the marker, more than 1″ from any units, with D3 wounds remaining. Otherwise Guilliman is slain. if the marker is on the battlefield at the end of the game, Guilliman is considered to be slain.

So not only does he have a 2+ save normally, he’s got a 3++ and if you happen to chew through all 6 wounds, he’s got Feel No Pain AND on a 4+ he’s got a chance to get back up with D3 Wounds. The Robo-Primarch is HERE!

Mechanicum Karacnos Assault Tank £105

A variant of the Triaros Armoured Conveyor common within the Mechanicum Taghmata, the Karacnos is a dedicated assault tank, its armoured chassis and copious transport compartment devoted to the mounting and munitions store of a single heavy weapon system – a mortar battery of ‘Karacnos’ radiological warheads, designed to sweep an area clear of organic life for later acquisition by the forces of the Machine God.

These warheads are rather volatile, meaning this tank is heavily protected by armoured shutters which provide two modelling options: the tank can have these open or closed. As well as this, its rear-mounted self-targeting lightning-blasters are movable from a resting position to battle-ready, meaning this machine can go from mobile artillery platform to true assault tank with a single command – especially given the front-mounted shock ram it shares with its ancestor.

Rules for using a Karacnos Assault Tank as part of a Mechanicum army in Horus Heresy games can be found in The Horus Heresy Book Seven – Inferno.

Forge World sells out of Thunderhawks!

We may be getting closer, or we may not....

From a reddit thread. Someone emailed Forge World and they responded with:

"Thanks for contacting us. For the Thunderhawk we are having to carry out some extensive repair work to the master model used to make the moulds for it before we can produce any more. To do this our designers have to be taken away from the projects they are currently working on and so can only do this in their spare time.

As such this repair work can sometimes take quite a while unfortunately and sometimes the repairs needed are not possible so it could be that the Thunderhawk will not return in it's previous form. If this is the case then it's likely that we will produce a brand new version of it at some point in the future. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused."

So a plastic Thunderhawk is still up in the air!

Said by some to be no less than death incarnate, and by others to be dishonourable murderers with no place in the Imperium’s order of battle, Moritats are lone killers operating outside the Legion’s usual command structures at the behest, or at least sufferance of its high commanders. Regarded usually as dangerously unstable outcasts – perhaps created by some seldom-exposed flaw of gene-seed or indoctrination – they are also savage and proficient warriors however, having become one with the act of killing, honing their superhuman reflexes to gun down the foe at close quarters to a preternatural degree.

Operating outside the Legion command structure, occasionally serving alongside the ranks of the Legion Destroyer squads, this model will prove a great addition to any Space Marine collection. Wielding two plasma pistols, connected to the included jump pack via plasma feed cables capable of launching an incredible amount of constant firepower, the Moritat’s detailed miniature – including a symbol on the right shoulder pad, specifically created for the Moritat – can be painted to fit in with any Legion’s colour scheme.

The new Thunderhawk has been revelaed!

And it ain't plastic!

We’ve had a lot of questions over the last few weeks, since our venerable Thunderhawk gunship sold out online.

We can now announce that the Forge World studio are nearing completion on a brand new updated version.

Pre-production model – there may be some slight differences in the final model.

This new resin Thunderhawk keeps the iconic and uncompromising outline of the Thunderhawk we all know and love, but also takes on a few design cues from other recent kits, like the Stormbird and Heresy-era Space Marine Legion tanks.

For the moment, we don’t have anymore to show you, but you can rest assured this Lord of War will be touching down very soon.

In fact, we’re hoping to have it available first at Warhammer Fest this May.

Magnus Arrives!

Magnus is finally here!

And I honestly think this is the best Primarch model yet. And thank the Emperor that they left off his stupid chest horns.

Magnus the Red, the Crimson King, Lord of Prospero – famous and infamous in equal measure for being perhaps the second most powerful psyker in the Imperium, after his father the Emperor.

We have, of course, already seen the daemonic incarnation of Magnus in the 41st Millennium. This version, while still towering over his brother Primarchs, is not on quite the same scale (which has the advantage that you can fit in a Land Raider of course.)

You can pick him up for the first time at Warhammer Fest (which, incidentally, is also hosting a Horus Heresy Grand Tournament).

The rest of you will need to wait a little longer to order one, but he will be available for all later this year.

A New Breed of Hero

For the past 10,000 years, the galaxy has been defended by the awesome might of the Adeptus Astartes – warriors whose origins date back to the gene-forging of the Space Marine Legions on ancient Terra, before even the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy that followed it.

Over the millennia, some have tried to emulate the process of creating Space Marines, both for good and evil, but none have managed to equal the genius of the Emperor’s finished creation.

Until today.

For ten millennia, Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl has been working on a task set for him by the Primarch Roboute Guilliman: a new legion of warriors. Now, though the Imperium is poised on the brink of annihilation, his task is complete…

The Primaris Space Marine is a new breed of hero for this, the darkest age in the Imperium’s history. These new warriors are the next step in the evolution of the Emperor’s Angels of Death – genetically altered from their brethren to be bigger, stronger and faster – timely reinforcements to the Imperium’s armies as their enemies close in for the kill.

To aid them in battle, these new gene-forged warriors are equipped with new arms and armour forged on holy Mars itself.

The Primaris Space Marine here is an Intercessor wearing Mk X Tacticus armour, a suit that combines the most effective elements of ancestral Horus Heresy patterns of plate with more recent developments in power armour technology. He carries into battle a bolt rifle: the archetypal firearm of Space Marines, re-engineered, re-crafted and perfected*.

At the dawn of the Indomitus Crusade, these phenomenal new warriors join Guilliman as he fights to liberate the scattered bastions of the Imperium. Some, Guilliman has forged into new Space Marine Chapters, whole brotherhoods comprised only of these new warriors. Others he has offered to the existing Space Marine Chapters. Many Chapter Masters have welcomed their Primaris brethren into their ranks, accepting the new reinforcements gladly. Others, though, view these new creations with suspicion or outright hostility, claiming that the Emperor’s work should not have been meddled with.

Though they are a step removed from their brothers, the Primaris Space Marines still bear the gene-seed of their Primarchs, and some dissenting voices worry how this new type of warrior will react with the known genetic quirks and flaws of some of the more unusual Chapters…

*Range 30, Strength 4, AP -1 and Rapid Fire.

Exciting times! The Primaris Space Marines sound like they are going to kick serious face in the far future. Classic Guilliman, playing the long game with this ace up his power-armoured sleeve the whole time he was in stasis. The newly triumphant forces of Chaos had better watch out.

The Death Guard are equally impressive. First up, a unit of Plague Marines. The archetypal unit of the XIV Legion swollen with the raw power of decay, these form of the core of any Death Guard force. Nurgle fans will also be pleased to see a shambling plague host represented by the repugnant and varied Poxwalkers, each draped in scraps of clothing from their former lives. There is a new vehicle on offer too – the Foetid Bloat-drone, a floating Daemon Engine that hunts its prey with a malign intelligence.

Rounding off the Death Guard are their own leaders, including a huge new Lord of Contagion, clad in warped Cataphractii Terminator plate and wielding one of the most brutal looking axes we’ve ever seen. Alongside him is the Noxious Blightbringer, a dark reflection of the noble Legion banner bearers of old, who carries a cursed plague bell that tolls with the death knell of his victims. Last but not least is the Malignant Plaguecaster – one of the pestilent sorcerers of this pox-ridden Legion.

A complete set of datasheets to field both these Death Guard and Primaris Space Marines armies are included in two separate booklets inside the box. You’ll also find a host of new background information on the two forces and on the Plague Wars being fought in Ultramar.

And of course, there’s the new Warhammer 40,000 book itself. This 280-page, hardback tome is included in the Dark Imperium box and is also available separately. This book is your guide to the new edition and contains an extensive exploration of the Warhammer 40,000 setting. This includes some pretty major advancements in the story for every faction in the galaxy, not least of which are the arrival of the Great Rift, the rise of Chaos, and the launching of the Indomitus Crusade.

And rules. Lots of rules. All the rules you need to wage the bloodiest of wars in the far future. Alan Bligh Has Passed

My friend and the lord of The Horus Heresy at Forge World, Alan Bligh, passed away yesterday.

Alan was a friend of mine and he was a fantastic talent. I love this photo of Alan, because this is what he looked like, sitting there at his table, when I last spoke with him at The Horus Heresy Weekender in February. We started chatting about a couple burning questions that had been consuming debate on the Heresy30K Forums:

Could you shoot at a Dreadnought in a Dreadnought Drop Pod the turn it arrives, and WTF with the one grenade rule?

Now those questions seem ridiculous compared to the loss of the man who basically created the Horus Heresy game we all love. A man who loved game design so much, and loved talking about it so much, that he radiated the joy of gaming as if he was Santa Clause on Christmas every day of his life. That is how I remember Alan, he LOVED what he did so much that after you talked to him, you could think of doing nothing else than diving into it even more. I would come away from every Horus Heresy Weekender reinvigorated for the hobby.

I considered Alan my friend. When I was visiting Nottingham for the Horus Heresy Weekender in 2013 I ran into Alan at Bugman's bar. He was sitting talking to John French and I introduced myself and we sat and chatted about the game. I am sure I fanboyed all over them (yeah, hard to believe I know) and I took the above photo. He then told me he was a donor to the Axanar project and I was floored! This man who was so brilliant at what he did, who lead the development of this amazing game I loved more than any other, actually liked my little project? I was so honored. So each year after that, when I would go to Nottingham, I would try and catch up with Alan. And this past year, at the Weekender, I didn't want to bother him, because he is so swamped, I figured I would catch him at his table (which I did) but Alan saw me and came up to me and told me we would find time to chat. That was how he was: real, genuine, and a person who people wanted to be around.

There are two blogs you need to read if you knew Alan, are a fan of The Horus Heresy, or just want to know why we all cared about this man so much.

Aaron Dembski-Bowden is not only an amazing author but a truly wonderful guy. His blog is worth reading if you didn't know what Alan was like and want to see what his friends say about him.

"Today, we’re looking at the latest addition to the Legio Custodes with the Aquilon Terminators, walking tanks in advanced Terminator armour wielding powerful close-assault weaponry. We had a preview of these guys at Warhammer Fest – and now here’s your chance to get up close and personal with these elite warriors.

The design of the Aqulion Terminators blends elements from the Custodian Guard with Cataphractii-Pattern Terminator armour, as well as drawing on a wealth of classic Warhammer 40,000 art. The armour has a hand-crafted, artisanal feel in contrast to the brutal and industrial nature of Space Marine power armour during the Age of Darkness, while details like the raised gorget and recessed helmet cavity tie the Aquilon Terminators to the Legio Custodes Dreadnoughts. These models are posed dynamically and given a sense of movement and flexibility that hints at the additional mobility provided by Aquilon Pattern Terminator armour.

Aquilon Terminators aren’t just equipped defensively, they’re also some of the most heavily armed of the Legio Custodes, equipped in this case with infernus firepikes and solarite power talons. Magistus Amon of the Thousand Sons Legion – £45 ($58)

A figure whose repute was known well beyond his Legion during the time of the Great Crusade, for he often served as his Primarch’s equerry. It was said of Amon that he had served as Magnus’ tutor once, before the coming of the Emperor to Prospero, though the student soon far outstripped the master.

If true then it is likely that he survived the conversion process to Legiones Astartes as an adult, perhaps aided by the Crimson King’s direct intervention, and emerged both as a potent warrior and powerful psyker. Most of his career beyond his public duties remained in shadow and it is believed that he was in fact master of his Legion’s intelligence gathering organisation. Amon’s fate was to see him survive the Battle of Prospero an embittered and wounded figure, who became increasingly isolated from his one-time peers and master.

Posed dynamically, leaping forward into combat with cloak billowing and furious expression, Magistus Amon of the Thousand Sons Legion wears powerful artificer armour with layer upon layer of psychically-charged glyphs and waveforms designed to augment his own abilities. He comes armed with a reliquary staff, which contains the dust-like remains of slain mind-parasites – their murderous psychic essence is his to leverage.

Magistus Amon comes with a 40mm round base, which on its own features plenty of detail – shattered rocks and the broken armour of a fellow warrior – but comes into its own when slotted into the included 50mm scenic display base; this model is sure to become the centrepiece of your Thousand Sons collection.

Forge World Previews Arcus Strike Tank

A new tank coming for Heresy fans.

Forge World has previewed their new Sicaran-chassis tank:

The Arcus Strike Tank is one of the more unusual tanks available to the Space Marine Legions. Similar to the malevolent Dreadclaw Drop Pod and the sinister Knight-Atrapos, the Arcus Strike Tank has a shadowed past, viewed by the Mechanicum for reasons unknown as a slight against the Omnissiah. As a result, the adepts of the Machine God refuse to produce or repair these vehicles – without their ministrations, these advanced support platforms have degenerated, and their advanced armaments have been replaced with more common rotary launchers. This has done little to blunt the offensive capabilities of the Strike Tank, which is still able to race forward and unleash hails of area-saturation incendiary missiles.

The Arcus Strike Tank looks similar to the other Sicaran-class vehicles, distinguished by its large twin rotary launcher. This weapon shares design traits with other missile launchers in the Space Marine Legions, from the man-portable versions found on Heavy Support Squads to the notorious scorpius missile launcher found on the Whirlwind Scorpius. The mouth of each launcher contains a bundle of missiles and has two huge ammo drums.

Well, damn, I need THREE!

Another Sicaran on the heels of the Arcus Strike variant!

Forge World has revealed the Sicaran Punisher.

The turret was previously spotted at Warhammer Fest in May and rules are on p.15 of Imperial Armour forces of the Adeptus Astartes.

Here are the rules:

“Punisher Rotary Cannon: 36″ Heavy18 S5 AP-1 D1, rerolls failed to hit rolls of 1 if the vehicle dies not move or Advance in the movement phase.”

Gabriel Angelos, Blood Ravens Chapter Master

The first of a series of Warhammer 40,000 figures is coming from Forge World. And a beauty it is!

Form Forge World:

Gabriel Angelos, Master of the Blood Ravens chapter of Space Marines, guides his brothers against the most dangerous enemies in the Galaxy. Uncompromising and honorable, Gabriel has little patience for those who would hesitate in battle.

Making a fantastic centrepiece for a Blood Ravens collection, this depiction of Gabriel Angelos, modelled after his appearance in the video game Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War III, is an HQ choice for Blood Ravens armies. His armour is resplendent with detail, with greaves covered in studs and skulls, a detailed cloak and plenty of chains, chapter markings and iconography to keep the painter busy; his scarred head glowers at the foe from underneath a spiked iron halo. He wields the intimidatingly-named God-Splitter Daemonhammer, and stands atop a rubble-strewn 60mm scenic base – this depicts a blasted rocky outcrop, and features a shattered piece of Ork armour, no doubt victim of the aforementioned Daemonhammer.

The kit comes as 7 components, and is presented in a Character Series box – there is also included a 40mm round gaming base, which can be removed from the scenic base for ease of use on the gaming table. Rules for Gabriel Angelos in games of Warhammer 40,000 are available as a PDF download.

The Horus Heresy gets a rulebook!

This book is your guide to gaming in the Age of Darkness; this valuable resource is for both experienced Praetors who’ve been playing since Betrayal and fledgeling Consuls looking to take their place in the greatest war the galaxy has ever known.

We know some of you want to know exactly what the Horus Heresy Age of Darkness Rulebook is, so we’ve prepared a quick Q&A:

What can you tell us about the upcoming Horus Heresy Rulebook?

It is a rulebook for use with the Horus Heresy range of miniatures using the 7th edition ruleset.

The core of the rules will be familiar to those playing the Horus Heresy today, but there have been some changes. Can you tell us about any?

The previous FAQs for 7th edition have been incorporated and the army construction section uses the Horus Heresy rules instead of the 7th edition standard. We’ve also made some balance changes based on community feedback. Invisibility has been replaced, while the usage of melta-bombs has been changed.

Does the new book work with the current range of Horus Heresy books and expansions?

Yes – all your red and black books still work!

What is in the book apart from the core rules themselves?

The rulebook just contains the core rules and useful reference material – you’ll find all the lore and specific rules for your chosen Legion (or the Mechanicum, or Crusade Imperialis) in the various Horus Heresy supplements.

In short, if you’ve been playing with the 7th edition rules then the game is much the same as it always was, but for some much-asked-for balance tweaks and less bookkeeping thanks to integrated army creation rules and FAQ updates. For instance, Invisibility with the new Mind Howl psychic power:
