    More Eldar rules and notes.

    Something new that's been overlooked in White Dwarf: The new Eldar transfer sheets have the rune for Craftworld Lugganath and Craftworld Lybraesil.  And Kirby confirms that with the new fluff, we see Craftworlds in the narrative.

    Codex Eldar :
    - Craftworld ships will be introduced
    - New special rules for many Eldar units. Old Nemesis (Slaanesh) and Battle Trance (running and shooting)
    - Multiple exarch abilitys, options and equipment

    Wraithknight (heavy support 240 points)
    -Strong Profile (S:10 T:8 W:6 AS:3+, Jump-pack
    - 2 heavy Phantom lasers (S10 AP 2 instant death on wound rolls of 6)
    - Alternative equipment possible - for example close combat weapons with a 5+ invul and blind special rule or a S:6 5" Blast with AP2. with 5+ invul and blind special rule.

    Somach Phantomhunter (fast attack 185 points)
    - Psyker with the terrify psychic power
    - 2 blast weapons with ap 2
    - Enemy units within 12" have to reroll succesful ld tests.

    Other new releases for Eldar
    Phantomseer, Runeprophet and cards for psychic powers.:
    - 3 different kinds of psykers (Seer council, Phantomseer, Runeprophet)
    - Divination, Telepathy and 2 new Eldar psychic disciplines: Runes of Battle and Runes of Fate (for Rune prophet and Runeseer respectively)
    - Runes of Battle have always 2 effects, for example granting Shrouding or taking Shrouding off the enemy unit.
    -Runes of Fate : 4 warpcharges, 2 powers, very strong and offensive

    Relics can be given to almost every autarch, runeprophet etc.

    Runes of Fate:primary: blessing: friendly unit within 24" may reroll failed to hit rolls
    1.focused witchfire: 24" a enemy model suffers 3 hits with the strength of the runeprophet and the special rule lifebane. if a model gets killed by this targets another model with 2 hits. if one gets killed by that, the last one gets hit 1 time.

    2. malediction: 24" range, if the target is a non vehicle unit all failed to wound rolls may be rerolled against the target. if the target is a vehicle every attack against it can reroll failed armor pen rolls.

    3. witchfire: 24" s 3 ap - assault 1 larg blast, haywire, lifebane, pinning

    4.blessing: the runeprophet gains d3+2 token. at the ending of each phase the runeprophet has to roll a d6. on a 1-3 one token gets removed. on a 4+ nothing happens until the end of the next long as the runeprophet has at least one token his stats get increased by:WS, BS, I +5 and attacks +2. he also gains the rampage and fearless special rules.if the runeprophet loses the last marker or the game ends he is removed as a casuality. (this isnt even my final form!)

    5.blessing: a friendly unit within 24" may reroll all failed saves

    6. focused witchfire: 24"the runeprophet and the target both roll a d6 and add their ld.if the target result is higher, the runeprophets WS and BS gets reduced to 1.if the result is equal the target model reduces its WS and BS to 1.if the runeprophets result is higher the target suffers as many wounds as there was a difference in the result. in addition WS and BS gets reduced to 1. no armor or coversaves allowed.thats it guys. im finished, my hands hurthope you guys are happy

  • Here they are, from a friendly source in Germany who has the codex and to whom we are eternally grateful!

    Eldar Warlord Traits

    1. one use only. in the own shooting or assault phase, the warlord and all allies within 12" reroll failed to wound rolls of 1.

    2. one use only. in the enemys shooting phase. the warlord and all allies within 12" gain the stealth usr.

    3. the warlord and his unit add +1 to their run movement (so d6 + 1)

    4. the warlord rerolls failed saves of 1.

    5. the warlord got the split fire usr

    6. allied eldar units deepstriking within 6" around the warlord dont scatter. 

    Exarch abilites. some are USR some are codex specific:

    fear, monsterhunter, night vision, feel no pain, hit & run.

    sniper vision : the exarch has precision shots on a 5+

    Iron Resolve: the exarch has +1 LD

    Disarm: in a challenge before striking blows, the exarch player and the enemy both roll a d6. if the exarch player rolls equal or higher than the enemy the enemys weapon counts as a normal close combat weapon instead. if the WS of the exarch is higher than the enemy, you add +1 to your D6 roll.

    Fire Hail (may be spelled wrong i translate here): the exarch may fire his weapon 1 more time than normal. has no use on flamers.

    Assassin: in a challenge, the exarch and his enemy both roll a D6. if equal or higher the exarch may reroll failed to wound rolls. if the initiative of the exarch is higher than the opponents, he adds +1 to his roll.

    shield of grace: in a challenge, instead of attacking the exarch has a 3+ invulnerable save.

    battle luck : 4+ invul for the exarch

    crushing blow : +1 S for the exarch.

    whats interessting is : the avatar can get exarch powers. so pretty fun

    Army Special Rules

    Old Nemesis : hatred (daemons of slaanesh and enemys with the mark of slaanesh) also they have -1 on their LDwhen doing fear tests against daemons of slaanesh and enemyies with the mark of slaanesh

    Battletrance: the unit may run and shoot or shoot and run.  You have to run & shoot or shoot & run with each unitbefore you can move the next unit. Models cannot run &shoot or shoot & run with heavy weapons unless they gotthe relentless special rule.

    Vehicle Equipment:

    Mindbreaker: every enemy and friendly unit within 12" hasto reroll passed morale and pinning tests.

    Ghostpath matrix: the vehicle gets the move through coverUSR

    Holofield: the vehicle grants +1 on its cover save if it hasmoved.

    Forcefield : 5+ invul

    Crystal targeting matrix: one use only. the vehicle (exceptwalkers) can fire a weapon at full BS even if it has movedwith cruising speed.

    Soulstones: the vehicle ignores crew shaken on 2+ andcrew stunned on 4+

    Serpent Shield: as long as the shield is active, everypenetrating hit on the front and side armor of a vehicle is aglance on a d6 roll of 2+ the shield may be deactivated to grant a followingshooting attack :  60" s 7 ap - assault d6+1, ignores cover, pinning.

    Star Engine: a vehicle that is no walker can move 24" with cruising speed. a walker runs +3"

    Vector Engine: as long as the vehicle isnt immobilized, the vehicle can turn after shooting.

  • I am cleaning out and have a bunch of stuff on eBay right now. I would greatly appreciate you all checking out my auctions.  Lots of books, some old school 40K, and more.  And next week I have some sweet armies going up.

    Games Workshop sent out an email stating that there were 350 copies left of the Eldar Special Edition Codex.
    You can buy it here, but at $ 100 I have to say, you better be a VERY hardcore Eldar fan.  These books never hold their value.  Just try and sell a 4th or 5th edition limited edition Rulebook now and you will be lucky to get 1/5th the original price.

    You can also download the digital version of the Eldar Codex.  But at $ 49.99 this is very expensive.  Think about it.  Games workshop doesn't have to PRINT The digital Codex, so already they are saving the $ 5 or so it costs to print the codex in China (I printed catalogs for Propworx in China and know how cheap it is).  Plus they have zero labor costs in shipping it.

    Now a rational strategy would be to charge $ 50 for the codex and add the Digital version on for maybe $ 19.95 more.  If you want just the digital version, then you pay maybe $ 39.95.

    But what do I know?  I don't run an intergalactic monopoly that squeezes every last dime out of its loyal customers.

    The word is out and Games Workshop has raised prices on paints and brushes.
    After 5 years of constant price increases on their models, seeing some models like a Land Raider go up 50%, this year's annual price increase will be limited to hobby supplies.

    Maybe GW has realized it can only squeeze so much out of its customers.  Many of my friends have left the hobby because they are so pissed at Games Workshop, and with good reason.  With codex 40K models now crossing the $ 100 mark with the $ 115 Wraith Knight, Games Workshop is establishing itself as a rich man's hobby.  In a time of slow economic growth, and almost ZERO inflation, how Games Workshop justifies these price increases is beyond most hobbyists.  

    Wayne Clark, a good friend of mine, had almost every 40K army.  And LOTS of them. He probably owns a quarter million points overall.  And last year he rage quit 40K because he was so pissed about the relentless price increases.

    Probably the most noticeable price increase is the 40K starter set, which went from $ 50 in 2008 to $ 100 now.  For a company dedicated to "recruitment" into the hobby, the whole point of the one man store philosophy, asking someone to buy a $ 100 starter set is a big chore.  At $ 50 they would fly off the shelves according to numerous GW managers and game store owners, but at $ 100 it is a tough sell.

    Ultimately, the bigger question is whether Tom Kirby, Games Workshop CEO, is setting the company up for a sale.  Cutting costs and raising prices to drive profitability is a indicator that this may be the case.

    And stay tuned for big news on how Games Workshop ran me out of being a store owner because they didn't like this blog.  That story starts this afternoon.

  • 06/05/13--18:21: Games Workshop Sold?

  • Has Games Workshop been sold?  Sources say so.

    For the past year I have been telling people that Games Workshop has been setting itself up for a sale.  Laying off expensive staff, cutting expenses and raising prices to show more profitability.  Mark Wells, the CEO, leaving was another sign.  And Larry from BoLS agrees with me.  We have talked about this for a while now.  All the signs were there that GW was on the block.  After all, Kirby & company have squeezed all the profitability they can out of the company.  Now the company has to rely on sales growth, which, in a poor economic environment and with product prices at extremely high levels, a canny insider would know that the stock won't keep going up.  And there were some strange large sales of stock a few months ago.  And the stock has increased 16% in the past three months.

    Now I have a yet unconfirmed source, telling me that the deal has happened, and simply hasn't been announced yet.  I have tried to tap into my sources at GW, but nothing. 

    Games Workshop has been highly secretive with its new releases, insisting on secrecy for dubious reasons.  They claim hype dilutes their sales, causing people to lose interest in the actual product when it finally comes.  Total nonsense, but it is what they claim.  (Tell the movie industry this...or any business for that matter).  Maybe if they had enough product for everyone on the day of release people would buy on the hype and not lose interest over the two or three weeks it takes to get the new releases at their FLGS.  

    Or, maybe GW has another reason for secrecy.  Maybe they are trying to clamp down on scuttlebutt for this very situation.  GW is very serious about their secrecy.

    So for now we have to wait for word from Mt. Olympus.

  • 06/06/13--09:05: Games Workshop Follow Up

  • Well, a lot of discussion has come from my post yesterday of a source who said Games Workshop is in the midst of a sale.  A few clarifications.

    1)  Games Workshop is a public company traded in the UK on the FTSE.  That means it has very different rules and regulations than for companies publicly traded on an American Exchange.

    2)  Games Workshop is a fairly closely held public company.  That means that a few number of shareholders, in their case, institutions, hold the majority of the shares.  Tom Kirby, as Chairman and acting CEO, is very tight with each of these institutions, as some are represented on the board, and others are merely just invested for the long haul.

    3)  If a sale is in the works, the parties would simply need to get the approval of these limited number of shareholders, and then execute the actual sale contract at a later date.  There would be no requirement to tell the minor shareholders of the pending sale until a document was executed. 

    4)  In these transactions, typically a binding letter of intent would be put in place, based on the successful execution of the acquiring parties due diligence would be typical.

    This is what happened with T-Mobil and AT&T last year, where the sale was conditional upon regulator approval.  When that approval was not going to be forthcoming, T-Mobile got a sweet $ 1 billion payment from AT&T for the deal falling through.

    I am not familiar with English law, so I do not know when disclosure is required and for what actions by the board of directors.  Anyone who knows for a fact, please chime in.

    And everyone in experience in business and public companies, has known that something was up for a while.   But the last couple weeks there have been so many indications that this is happening.  No one thing that you can point to, just a lot of little things.  When my source said it is done, I asked him more questions, to which he couldn't supply answers

    Also, both BoLS and Faeit212 authors have said something is up.  Natfka posted this on the comments of yesterday's article:

    "However, you may be on to something regarding the sale. I just received something as well on it. going to go live with it."


    "Something is going on. A long time source of mine has chimed in."

    So we will wait and see.

  • 06/07/13--18:00: Siegeworld Apocalypse Game

  • Anyone who knows the guys from Siegeworld in St. Louis, know they are the best Apocalypse club in the country.  And I don't say that lightly.  Despite 3 major Apocalypse clubs being represented at The Big game III, Apoc-Eclipse from North Carolina, my own SoCal Apocalypse and Siegeworld, the Siegeworld guys brought the most players, had awesome armies and were just great guys to play.

    The world of Ricen VII hosts an Imperial colony that was jointly sponsored by the Adeptus Mechanicus and the ++CLASSIFIED++ tasked with the Archeotech research of an ancient buried city of unknown origin.  Of particular note is a central structure………

    The Awakening is a Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse game between the forces of the Imperium and Eldar against  the forces of the Necrons and allied elements (i.e. Chaos Space Marines, Traitor Guard, etc. as needed to balance the forces).  This is also a farewell Apocalypse event as the Wargamer’s Cave will be losing its lease by the end of July.

        • Adepticon INAT FAQ

    Special Rules:
        • Turns will be times. Each player turn will be 45 minutes. Any actions not completed by the end of the turn’s time will not occur. Any actions partially completed at the end of a turn’s time limit are halted immediately and we move on to the next player turn.
        • Each player should plan on a 3000 to 5000 point force from any Games Workshop Codex:
        • Each player should plan on bringing an army with at least 1 HQ and 2 Troop choices for each Codex they will use.  I.e. if a player wanted to bring Space Marines and Imperial Guard, at minimum a single HQ choice must be selected from each Codex and at minimum 2 Troop choices must be selected from each Codex.  Thus at minimum that player will have 1 Space Marine HQ, 1 Imperial Guard HQ, 2 Space Marine Troops, and 2 Imperial Guard Troop choices.  Lastly, an additional category will be used, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), which includes Super Heavies and Gargantuan Creatures. Note: WMDs will be limited to no more than 3 per player, and no WMD may have more than 4 structure points.
        • Each Player may choose one free Strategic Asset from Warhammer 40k Apocalypse or Apocalypse Reloaded. Additional Strategic Assets are allowed only if granted by a chosen formation.
        • The Strategic Asset “Flank March” is only allowed for a formation that grants it and then can only be used by that formation, regardless of what the Data Sheet states.
        • Pulsarokits and Deathstrike Missiles are limited to 1 per player
        • Disruptor Beacons are modified to only work within a 12 inch radius and also only activate on a 5+

    So if you are close, go and play.  There is no one I would rather play with than these guys!

    Resin Addict member and hobby friend Shane Barnbrook (Barn) suffered a lot of misfortune last year with regards to his health. Something as seemingly inane as accidentally swallowing a chicken bone resulted ultimately in a coma and paralysis! While doctors expect him to make a full recovery, it will be a very long journey. In order to take the first steps Barn needs to get out of rehab and back to his home so that he can be with his lovely wife and children. This however requires extensive and expensive improvements and mobility assistance equipment.

    In order to help raise funds for Barn and his family I am auctioning off a one-of-a-kind custom Battlefleet Gothic fleet on ebay:

    The Fleet

    Let’s get down to business. This fleet has been designed as a competitive, stylised 1500 point Voss fleet for Battlefleet Gothic. It is composed of the following:
    1x Fleet captain +1 extra re-roll (not a physical model)
    2x Mars class Battlecruisers
    1x Dominator class cruiser
    1x Gothic class cruiser
    2x Endurance class light cruisers
    5x Sword class frigates
    4x Cobra class destroyers

    That’s a total of 15 ships and exactly 1500 points.


    Cruisers and Battlecruisers
    These are all converted from the standard imperial plastic cruisers. I have fitted custom prows and one of the battlecruisers has a bridge and superstructure section taken from a Chaos cruiser. The Dominator has a different style of Nova Cannon fitted to further differentiate it from the others.

    These are resin casts of the custom design I created. They have been fitted with standard plastic Imperial lance decks (however note that I have not fitted the lance turrets – these will be supplied in a bag so they can be glued into the desired positions).

    Frigates and Destroyers
    These are custom designs by myself that I have recast in resin. In this fleet they are standing in as Sword and Cobra class ships. 

    Custom Bases
    As if all of the above custom goodness weren’t enough, I have gone one step further and added custom bases. These are resin cast and include bearing and fire arc indicators moulded into them. Escort sized ships are mounted on a styrene rod and all other ships are mounted using a brass rod. This means no more snapped stems!

    All ships will be supplied assembled but unpainted. Some have been partially primed. For shipping I will remove them all from their bases – superglue will need to be used to re-fix them.

    Another source has chimed in that Games Workshop is in fact undergoing change of control.  
    The chatter is picking up as doubters check with their sources, who wind up confirming that something is going down.  While the source wouldn't say exactly what type of change of control that is, outright sale, merger, change of ownership of a majority of shares, it is clear something is happening.  

    And to those who say "We'll I am a GW shareholder and I have heard nothing." Know that a public corporation is under no obligation to tell every shareholder what is happening all the time.  Being that GW is very closely held and that Chairman Tom Kirby probably has a majority of the shares with him on any type of deal, the rank and file shareholders will find out when the deal is announced.

    Big announcement in the gaming world as Games Workshop and Behaviour Interactive announced a 40K MMOG.  

    This is both exciting and daunting, as few MMOGs actually make it.  Even the Star Wars version has struggled.  Star Trek online had to go from a pay model to a free model (and is thriving now).  You can check it out here.

    So here was the announcement:

    Forge World has finally released their awesome Fulgrim model.
